"Older Canadians speak mistily of the train. They talk of its spirit, and how it defined the land. For many who arrived her as immigrants and made their first journeys inland by rail, the train was Canada. They say it taight them pride and respect in their new land, and what it meant to be Canadian. And those same people say they wouldn’t have learned that on an airplane or in a car. They say if we let the passenger train die, something in us will die, too."

Tomorrow is National Parks Day—celebrating 100 years of the Canadian National Parks system—but I thought I would celebrate a little early with this stunning photo of Moraine Lake, located in the first National Park of Canada—Banff.

“This image was taken in winter time in a arid area of the Canadian Rockies. Temperatures where below -30 degrees Celsius yet because there was no snow fall the surface of the lake was uncovered allowing me to see and capture the bubbles (gas release from lake bed) that were trapped in the frozen waters.”

This is so neat.
And I think we need to give some loving to my Tumblr Radar because it has found two awesome photos today! :-D
